The Source Behind Everything
At the heart of The Kybalion lies one of its most profound teachings: The All. This term refers to the infinite, eternal, and unknowable source from which all things originate. It is beyond human comprehension, beyond name, form, and understanding—yet it is the root of all that exists.
The Kybalion states:
“The All is Mind; The Universe is Mental.”
This suggests that the entire universe is a mental creation of The All. Everything you see, hear, feel, and experience is part of a vast mental construct that exists within the Mind of The All. This doesn’t mean the universe is imaginary; rather, it is fundamentally mental, not material.
Understanding “The All” empowers the student to recognize their connection to a greater whole. If all is mind—and our consciousness is part of that universal mind—then we are not separate from the divine. This realization lays the foundation for self-mastery, manifestation, and spiritual growth.
The Limits of Understanding
The human mind cannot fully grasp “The All”. The Kybalion emphasizes that any attempt to define or describe it will fall short. Yet, we are told that we can approach a better understanding through study, intuition, and meditation.
The All is both immanent (within everything) and transcendent (beyond everything). This paradox is difficult to hold, but crucial to Hermetic philosophy. While we can’t “know” The All as we know ordinary objects, we can attune ourselves to its presence and live in harmony with its laws.
